How do we get started?
After you complete the interest form (see Inquire Now above), I will follow up by email in 1-3 business days. From there, we’ll chat a little more via email about your story, needs, questions, and timeline. Once we’re both agreed, I will send you a contract to sign, then request documents from you and get to work.
Do I have to sign a contract?
Yes. Before we get started, I will ask you to sign a contract that is for both of our benefits. It will outline the services I will be providing you, the terms of payment, and a clear acknowledgement that you retain full control and ownership of everything you share with me.
Separate contracts will be sent for each individual service (i.e., First Act, Full, Misc.)
When and how do I pay?
Once the contract is signed, I’ll send you an invoice for an initial deposit of 25%. You’ll pay the rest after I’ve delivered all comments and summary documents back to you, along with a second invoice. You can pay by credit, debit, or other methods like Apple Pay or Klarna.
Will my story be safe?
Absolutely. Protecting your IP is my top priority. Any files you send me will be stored securely, will never be shared, and will be destroyed following a set period after our work together is complete. In addition, I will never post anything related to your story or our business together without your express permission.
What type of file format do you accept?
Microsoft Word or Google Docs work best for in-line comments.
What can I expect as far as in-line comments?
My in-line comments will be what you’d expect from a typical beta read, likely with some additional notes to help you track the comments in my developmental summary. I will share my live reactions so you know what I’m loving, or confused by, as well as make note of typos and grammatical errors as I see them. All of my comments are thoughtful, encouraging, and meant to support you and your story. I’ve also been known to leave a .gif or two.
What can I expect as far as a developmental summary?
While I’m reading your story, I will be keeping detailed notes in a separate document, which will help me track your story structure, pacing, character arcs, and more. When I’m done, I will compile this all into a summary document to give you a more comprehensive look at what’s working and what isn’t, breaking things down at the line-, chapter-, and big picture-level. Most importantly, I’ll give you actionable suggestions for how to fix problem areas with easy-to-track references back to your document.
Can I revise and resubmit my first act?
Sure! If we both agree to move forward with your full manuscript, you’re more than welcome to incorporate changes to your first act and resubmit. I will review those pages again at the same price of 1¢ per word, only charging the higher rate for the remaining portion of your manuscript. However, please know that this will extend the timeline for my full review.
